Day 10's morning outing took us on a short nature hike to a nice little swimming hole next to a beach. (There were two longer hikes, but neither of us were up for them.) We got to see some rather scary insects, have some fun in the water, and see some strikingly colored crustacean shells.

The lunchtime and afternoon outing had us picnicking on an Osa Peninsula beach as a thunderstorm passed by overhead (and this is the dry season!). In the afternoon, Tina took a horseback ride, while I hung around on the beach and eventually returned to the ship.

A mass of caterpillars on a tree trunk.

An adorable little spider. That's the guide's hand in the background - none of us got anywhere near that close. If you look closely, you can also see smaller spiders. (The large one is a female, and the smaller ones are males, who risk being dinner if they don't approach the female very carefully.)

These may look like fried eggs, but they're actually seed pods. They blow, Frisbee-like, on the wind to be carried to new places to (one hopes) sprout).

Ye olde tropical swimming hole. Yes, I took my turn in there, but I had to come out if I wanted to take any photos with a dry camera.

View of the beach from the swimming hole - this is almost exactly a 90-degree turn from the previous photograph.

What's left of a crab shell.

And a lobster shell.
I just thought this leaning tree was neat - this is just a little ways down the beach from the swimming hole.

Our beach picnic.

A view of the beach from the picnic, with the rain falling. It doesn't stop the guides from playing Frisbee, though that may not be evident from this photograph.
