The guide did not say how long such a tunnel could be reinforced by such a ramshackle construction as this, but he did say the metal frames had a finite life. To get here, we took a cage down. In a real mine, the distance down might be 400 feet, but this is a simulated mine. I got the impression we were only one floor down, and might not even be underground. The trip back was via a simulated railcar ride. Never mind that it made no sense to descend vertically 400 feet in an elevator and to return on a railcar that travelled horizontally. The point was to entertain us.
