PAT005: "Was born at Ebensburg, Pa--10 mi. SW of Altoona, 20 mi NW of Johnstown--Oct. 21, 1861. When three he moved to Iowa City. In young manhood he was in the hardware business, traveling a great deal, finally for a large house in Chicago. Shortly before he met R.M.D. he was in a railroad accident and as a result had a badly crippled right wrist. Because of this he gave up traveling and went in to banking temporarily. Seeing an opportunity in the hardware business in Denver, he moved with his small family from Pender (sometime before 1900)."
