"Nantgarw square 9.5" porcelain dish circa 1816. Embossed border. Linear edging in gold. Factory painted, with four groups of glowers. Impressed Nantgarw C.W. Condition: Very slight rubbing to gilding. Price: £ 2,400." Porcelain went through several stages, including throwing or forming of the basic shape, molding of decoration, attachment of molding to the object, soft firing, glazing, painting, and further firing. After Nantgarw ceased making fine pottery and began making more profitable clay pipes, objects made before the fine decorators left were shipped to other factories, especially in London, for painting and final firing. This dish was entirely made at the Nantgarw factory.
