My trip to San Diego - Page Two

Here are some more of my photos from my trip to San Diego in February 2003, mostly from Balboa Park.

Some big giraffes.

Mother and baby koala.

Snow leopard.

Meerkat.

Some freaky pigs. (I came out of the zoo thinking, "They've got animals not found in nature!")

Bonobo. Reminded me of those apes from the early part of 2001: A Space Odyssey, so humanlike they're creepy.

Enough of the zoo: this is an actual GPS satellite that I worked to support for about three weeks. In the background is a full-size model of the Apollo command and service modules. Hard to believe that human beings could go all the way to the Moon and back in one of those.

A tower in Balboa Park through the trees.

San Diego from Barrier Island.

The San Ysidro port of entry. The border is about where the roads split.

Don't dump on me!

Room with a view: out my hotel room window, overlooking Interstate 8.

Ran into this, um, sculpture in the connecting airport on the way home. It's entitled "The Spirit of Pigcinnati."
