Our last full day took us in the morning to a more-developed locale than usual, as we took a hike through a small village and then to the mouth of a river. We took the river upstream and into the forest, though unfortunately my photos from that part of the outing were not very successful.

In the afternoon, we moored off an island and gave the snorkelers in the group a chance to explore underwater. Tina stayed onboard ship, having tired of wet landings, while I went ashore for a bit and wandered up and down the beach.

Isa starting our tour of the village on Drake Bay.

Schoolgirls heading to the local store. Children in uniform were a ubiquitous sight along the roads of Costa Rica, either waiting for a bus or going to or from school. (Most of the schools are Catholic ones.) However, this photo and the next were the only two I ever managed to get.

And this is the school itself, with many of the children playing outside on the porch. (I don't know if you can tell, but the girl facing us has the biggest grin on her face - I don't know if she found us amusing or what!)

Onshore at Drake Bay.

An iguana through the scope.

A view of the island from onboard ship.

Boarding Zodiacs from the beach at Canos.
A hermit crab on the beach - on some beaches it was all you could do not to step on one of these guys!

The rocky beach at Canos.

Pelicans in the treetops (somehow it's not where I expect them to be).
