One of the nice things about having a cluster of Xserve G5s in your home (aside from not needing a central heater) is the ability to process streams of scientific data almost instantly. For example, I tapped into NASA's downlink from the Mars rover and decoded this photo even before NASA:
I'm not sure why I haven't seen it used in news reports.
